My First Time Eating Nutella

Our fans share their “First Time” tasting Nutella.

The moment is painted in my mind. I was rushing into a grocery store in Ontario to buy cough drops. Inside the door a kind, older gentleman manned a tasting booth. “Nutella?” he asked, as he spread a broad swatch on a half slice of soft white sandwich bread and thrust it in my direction. Seconds later Nutella meets my taste buds and I’m in love. “Good, eh?” he asks. “Oooooh” is all I manage to mumble. Checkout time: One jar Nutella, one loaf white bread, and those cough drops. Colds fade, but Nutella fever never goes away. – Julie W.

The first time I tried Nutella, I was in Italy! I was feeling a little homesick and a good friend brought me a jar of Nutella and some fresh strawberries. I couldn’t believe how good it was! I was shocked when I discovered I had eaten the whole jar all on my own. Embarrassing, but it did make me feel better! – Heather H.

I was studying abroad in England in 2005 and our first full English breakfast had your usual sausage, eggs, beans, etc, and there was a basket of pastry rolls with the little individual packets of Nutella. I had never heard of it but my friend told me it was like “chocolate peanut butter, only better” so I was more than happy to try it. And my love affair began. I still have one of the packets I kept the entire time and then later put in my shoebox of memories/souvenirs from the experience!  And just a fun end note, I now collect Nutella jars from wherever I travel. My favorite is a glass round jar from Russia which I cleaned once I was finished with it and now use to hold all my pens on my desk. – Jessica J.

I was 5 years old and at that age, Nutella made such an imprint in my mind and soul that I still remember the happy dance I did. My dad’s friend visiting from Italy brought me my very first Nutella jar. I loved it so much I even named my dog Nutella. The most memorable Nutella experience for meas an adult was my first trip to Paris where I tasted Nutella crepes that were to die for! Nutella has become a nouveau holiday tradition for me. it was around this time last year and on this friday morning in our german lesson we were having breakfast in german. Well, we all had to bring something in and my friend brought some Nutella. I took a bite and that was it, I went crazy I was all over the place in fits of giggles. (I got to keep the rest of the jar at the end). At the time though one of my friends was at the doctors so she missed the whole thing. (My experience started a comic series that lasted six months “The Nutella Conspiracies”) – Katherine F.

I was at a friends house and we were looking for a snack. I saw an almost empty jar of Nutella and asked what it was, well we put some on sliced bread and i was hooked!! My first Nutella experience was in Italy in the ’60′s. Nutella came in a little plastic container resembling a house with a little plastic spoon to scoop it out. As of today I still have Nutella for breakfast on Buitoni toast or french bread. My wife likes hers on Brighams coffee ice cream and my children prefer theirs on white bread. Today’s Nutella is the same delicious flavor that it was 40 years ago. It’s finger licking hazelnut!! I am actually eating it right now. Smooth, creamy and nutty it’s sooooo gooood! – George M.

On a long backpacking trip we mixed Nutella and peanut butter and ate it on pilot bread. That was supremely good, but I later discovered that it is even better eaten right out of the jar, at home. – Betty S.

It was a week into my sophomore year of high school, I had had a big fight with my friends a few weeks before and had been eating lunch alone. This girl I sort of knew walked up to my, stuck her finger in a jar of nuttela, and spread it all over my nose declaring “There, now we’re friends!” I wiped some nutella off my nose and tasted it, it was the most delicious thing I’d ever eaten off my face! We became best friends after-wards, and I thank nutella for that. – Allie S.

Nutella has been a part of my life for a very long time. I don’t remember the exact moment, I was probably 7 or 8 years old, but I remember buying it from an Italian foods market in Middlesex, NJ. That was the only place we could find this wonderful treat. When I was 10 years old I went to Italy for the 1st time and I know I ate Nutella with bread for breakfast every morning. I love Nutella! – Alessandra D.

Four years ago when the first World Nutella day was announced, I became curious, how good was it that it got its own day? I decided that I MUST try Nutella! I was lucky to find some at my local grocery store, after all I live in south Texas where there are not many, if any, Italians. I went with something simple, Nutella on toast. All I can say isWOW! The chocolate hazelnut spread melted in my mouth and visions of all things good went through my mind. It was perfection and I am hooked for life! – Jennifer H.

My first time with Nutella was when I was 4 years old… a long time ago. My mother will give it to us (my sister and I) during snack time, in the early afternoons. It was in a little, portable plastic container (probably 2 tablespoons in all) and we had to spread it on bread…. or not. I used to eat it by itself and then bite on my toast, because Nutella is so awesome all by itself!!! When I moved to the States, I looked for about one year before I found Nutella (I was in a very small town in Oklahoma and nobody knew); when I found it, the smell and flavor brought me back home to Sicily, Italy, to my beautiful dark-eyed and dark-haired mother and my small sister who I miss dearly! – Giovanna S.

The first time I tried Nutella, I was in college. A local family was going on vacation, and needed to find someone (me) to live in their house while they were away. All was going well that week until my friends and I found five jars of Nutella in the kitchen cabinet, and devoured ALL of it by the end of the week! We went to the store to try to replace it and could not find any more Nutella! I still wonder if the family ever noticed we ate it all! LOVE IT! ♥ ♥ ♥ – Sara S.
